Hobbs, NM – The USW kept the pressure on the middle of the pack in the RRAC as they swept the opening double header against Huston-Tillotson on Friday 5-4 and 6-4 at Jake Williams Field.  

The Mustang offense jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first game of the day after putting up four runs in the first inning. The lead would not hold as the Rams clawed their way back into the contest and tying the game at 4 runs a piece after 4 innings. Frankie Arellano would take the lead back for the Mustangs in the sixth with an RBI single down the first base line. Clinton Graham would take the victory for the Mustangs in his two innings of relief work not allowing a run on the day.

The USW (14-25, 9-11) offense would continue things in game two sparked by lead off home run by center fielder Derelle Owens that ignited a four run first inning. The Rams would answer with two runs of their own in the second inning before being silenced by Mustang starter Andrew Felix. The freshmen from El Paso, TX would be dominate the rest of the way pitching 7.1 innings on the day allowing 4 runs (all earned) on 11 hits and one strike out. He would only walk one hitter out of the 32 he faced in his 98 pitch outing.

Along with his solo home run, Derelle Owens would collect 3 more hits to have a 4-5 day at the plate. Joshua Cappello and Bryan Hernandez counted for two hits each while Ysidoro Reyna, Eric Alvarez, and Nathan Paz added one a piece. Clinton Graham picked up his third save of the season pitching the final 1.2 innings allowing just one hit while striking out four.

The Mustangs have now won four of their last five RRAC games and will play the final game of the series as well as the final home game of the season tomorrow starting at 12 noon MST. The contest will also mark "Senior Day" at the ballpark as the Mustangs honor 11 seniors playing their last game at Jake Williams Field. Ernesto Torres (2-5) will toe the rubber for the Mustangs looking for his second straight win in as many starts.
