Hobbs, NM (October 9, 2012) – The USW Mustang tennis team will be represented well at the 2012 National Small College Championships starting on Thursday, October 11th and conclude on Sunday, October 14th. Marek Ondruj took home the Regional Championship in the Men's Singles to earn a spot in the National Tournament which is the first in the program's six year history.

The USW tennis team competed in Shawnee, OK in the 2012 USTA/ITA Regional Tournament on September 28th and 29th. After a season that has seen nothing but success thus far, expectations were through the roof during the weekend. Five of the seven Mustang players won their opening which included Max Sladvosky, Alfred Mohan, Felix Singer, and Alex Sandovla along with Marek Ondruj who knocked out Brandon Patterson of Southwestern Christian, 6-0, 6-1.

The outstanding weekend was just getting started for Ondruj as he took on Francisco Da Silva of Oklahoma Baptist in the quarterfinals. Ondruj wasted no time taking out Da Silva 6-0, 6-0 to earn a spot in the semifinals against Dario Macanovic of Oklahoma Baptist.

Macanovic would give Ondruj his first test of the tournament taking the match to three sets with Ondruj knocking out Macanovic, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 earning him a spot in the Regional Finals against Oklahoma Baptist's Marco Carvajal.

Just like the rest of the weekend, Marek would dominate the finals, dropping Carvajal 6-4, 6-4 to win the Regional crown as well as a spot in the National Small College Championships. The tournament will take place in Mobile, Alabama starting Thursday, October 11th.
