Hobbs, NM – Dakota Rice, a three year USW Volleyball member, has been chosen to attend the Disney College Program at Disney World in Orlando, Florida. "This has been something I've wanted to do since my freshman year here" said Rice. "I was originally looking up the internship program and found the college program where I can earn credits toward my degree."
Individuals must go through an intensive selection process, including multiple interviews and GPA requirements, to be selected for the college program. Second semester freshmen through juniors are eligible to apply for the program. Once selected, individuals are assigned to a Disney location, as well as a work assignment. While at Disney, individuals will work for the parks while taking college credit courses toward their degree program.
Rice will be missing her senior year season with the Mustangs. "It's kind of bitter sweet" said Mustangs Head Coach, Sonya Petroski. "I know this has been something she has wanted to do for so long, but it will be very different to not have her with us for her last season. I'm very happy for her though, she's doing something she really wants to do." Rice will attend the Disney College Program from May 2014 through January 2015. She will return to USW to finish the spring semester prior to graduation.
The Tularosa, New Mexico native has been a member of the Lady Mustang Volleyball team since the resurgence of the program in 2011. Rice is working toward a Bachelor of Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing. After graduation from USW, Rice plans to open her own bakery.
"Working for Disney has always been a dream of mine. This opportunity will open up a lot of doors for my future" concluded Rice.
