WACO, Texas -- Ciara Fraher of University of the Southwest (N.M.) and Amanda Hinojosa of Our Lady of the Lake University (Texas) picked up Red River Athletic Conference Softball Co-Player of the Week honors for April 7-13, while Fraher doubled up with this week's Pitcher of the Week honor. This is the 10th set of awards for the 2014 season.
Fraher, a senior pitcher/designated player from El Centro, Calif., batted .643 and collected three wins as a pitcher in a 6-0 week for the Lady Mustangs. She played in five of the six games and hit safely in each game. Fraher drove in a pair of runs in a 3-1 victory over the University of Texas-Permian Basin, and she had another standout performance by going 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and four RBIs to defeat Langston University (Okla.), 8-1. Fraher also won that game with a five-hitter and one earned run in addition to throwing a no-hitter with 12 strikeouts to blank LU, 5-0. She also chipped in a five-hitter with one run allowed in a seven-inning victory over UTPB. In all, Fraher was 9-of-14 at the plate with seven RBIs and two runs scored, while striking out 28 batters as a pitcher. USW holds the top spot in the RRAC at 17-3 with a mark of 29-11 on the season.
Hinojosa, a senior shortstop from San Antonio, Texas, accounted for two home runs and seven RBIs in a 3-2 week for the Lady Saints. In the opener of a three-game series with Texas College, she went 2-for-3 with a homer and two RBIs to pace an 11-0 victory. In the following game, she connected on a grand slam and scored three runs in a 16-0 rout. Hinojosa added another hit in the finale against TXC as OLLU completed a sweep. For the week, she was 5-of-12 at the plate with seven runs scored and two walks. The Lady Saints advanced 10-2 in conference play and 27-9-1 overall.
Maegan Ramirez of OLLU was also nominated for this week's pitcher honor.
