Muskogee, OK - The USW Mustangs grabbed two of the three games from RRAC opponent Bacone College. Solid pitching and timely hitting brought the Mustangs home with the series win. The win keeps the Mustangs in the middle of the RRAC standings.

In game one of the double header on Friday, Ernesto Torres (1-4) gave the Mustangs exactly what they needed on the mound in the opening game. The senior from El Paso, TX, pitched a dominating 4 2/3 innings only allowing two hits and two runs while striking out four and walking four. Clinton Graham came in at relief, pitching the final 2 1/3 innings. Graham picked up his first save of the season in the scoreless frames.

Junior infielder Carlos Rodriguez collected three RBIs in the first game to lead the way for the Mustangs. Derelle Owens went 2-4 at plate and teammate, Micah Martinez collected two hits in three at bats. Eric Alvarez and Josh Cappello also had a hit each, bringing the Mustang total to seven in the game. The Mustangs (5-7, 9-18) racked up 5 stolen bases in the opener as well.

The Mustangs jumped out to a 2-0 lead early in the second game of the series. USW held the lead into the sixth inning when Bacone (7-5, 17-11) brought across four on a costly Mustang error. The Mustangs drove home one more run in the top of the eighth but that would be all they could come up with as they fell 5-3. Emory Weatherton (3-3) received the loss for the Mustangs, going six innings allowing four runs, three earned, on four hits. The Amarillo, TX native had six strike outs on the day, giving up five walks.

Seniors Derelle Owens and Josh Cappello each went 2-4 at the plate as Cappello also collected two RBIs in the game. The Owens and Cappello picked up USW's only hits in the second game.

Game 3 of the series had Junior Larry Navarro toe the rubber. Navarro (0-1) gave up three runs, all of which were earned on two hits, struck out five and walked two in three innings of work. Alfonso Alonzo (1-1) became the talk of the day for USW. The Junior threw 3 1/3 innings of relief retiring all 10 batters he faced, six of which were on strike outs. Alonzo picked up the win for the Mustangs of which was his first on the season. Clinton Graham came in to pitch the final two innings getting his second save of the weekend and the season.

The USW offense racked up 15 hits and 10 runs on the day, giving the Mustangs one of their best offensive days this season. Freshman, Frankie Arellano went 3-6 at the plate with two RBIs. Derelle Owens, Ysidoro Reyna, Carlos Rodriguez, and Nathan Paz each had a pair of hits on the day. Josh Cappello, Omar Villar, Bryan Hernandez, and Micah Martinez all had a hit each.

The Mustangs head to Lubbock for a double header against Sooner Athletic Conference powerhouse, Lubbock Christian. USW will return home on the 23rd for a RRAC weekend series against The Steers from Texas College starting at 12 noon MST at Jake Williams field.
