
WACO, Texas -- Ashleigh Jiminez of Texas Wesleyan University and Dede Perez of the University of the Southwest (N.M.) earned a share of the Red River Athletic Conference Softball Player of the Week award for April 16-22, while TWU's Alexis Beltran collected the RRAC Softball Pitcher of the Week honor for the same dates.
Jiminez, a senior second baseman from Burleson, Texas, hit .550 (11-for-20) as the Lady Rams closed the regular season with series sweeps of Northwood University (Texas) and Huston-Tillotson University (Texas). She collected five multi-hit games while knocking in five runs and scoring six. Jiminez drove in two runs in the middle game against Northwood and added an RBI in each game against HT. TWU clinched the RRAC regular season championship for the second time in school history with a conference record of 20-4 and a mark of 22-17 overall.
Perez, a senior second baseman from El Paso, Texas, scored four runs and drove in four in a 1-4 week for the Lady Mustangs. She was 2-for-4 in a double-header against fifth-ranked Lubbock Christian University (Texas) then went 3-for-3 with three runs and four RBIs in a 12-4 win over Langston University (Okla.). Perez was 7-for-13 on the week (.538) with a double, two triples and a walk. USW closed out RRAC play at 12-12 with an overall record of 18-23.
Beltran, a sophomore pitcher from Upland, Calif., went 5-0 with a 1.15 ERA in the Lady Rams' final six games. She made four starts and notched 16 strikeouts in 24.1 innings while holding the opposition to a 1.93 batting average. Her effort included two complete game four-hitters against Northwood and HT.
Kimberlee Briseno of Our Lady of the Lake University (Texas), Ashley Covington of Bacone College (Okla.) and Taylor Jones of Northwood were also nominated for player of the week. Maegan Ramirez of OLLU was an additional pitcher nominee.
