Kevin Dobbs is set to begin his third season as the head women’s basketball coach at the University of the Southwest. Coach Dobbs extensive background and proven record of success is leading the program to heights unseen in its short history.
Prior to USW, Dobbs amassed eight seasons as a college head women’s coach, his initial five at Black Hills State University where he left as the all-time winningest coach in program history. Following his five years in the Black Hills, Dobbs also led the program at Peru State in Nebraska for one successful overhaul season, then was offered the head women’s coach position at NCAA II Pfeiffer University in North Carolina where he remained for two seasons.
Upon his arrival at USW, Dobbs hoped to employ an aggressive, up-tempo, defensively creative style of basketball, however due to lack of depth, has had to re-define how his teams have played. Moving forward, with the cupboard finally filling up with quality talent and depth, he hopes to bring this program to a level of competitiveness it’s never before experienced.
“My first two seasons at USW have been a true blessing, have had the opportunity to coach some class young women, we’ve broken some records, beat Texas Wesleyan for the first time in program history, and have had tastes of success. However, it’s become very evident to me that the additions we are making now, the depth we are finding ourselves with, and the quality of player we will now have, that our brightest days are immediately ahead of us.”
