Keeping fit is the purpose of the Jack & Mabel Maddox Student Life Center
Officially, the newest building on the campus of the University of the Southwest is called the Jack & Mabel Student Life Center, but, perhaps, it should just be called the Life Center as it is a hub of activity for USW students and staff.
The 30,000+ square foot building houses a number of social, community and athletic events with its full-sized basketball/volleyball court with bleacher seating, concessions, and locker rooms.
Since the fall of 2008, USW has sponsored a men's and women's basketball program and in the Fall of 2011 brought volleyball to the Maddox Student Life Center, making full use of the 1,200 seating capacity of the gymnasium for Mustang fans.
Another section of the building is devoted to a chapel, allowing for small, intimate gatherings or religious services for the campus and area residents.
The Jack & Mabel Maddox Student Life Center also houses a 3,500-square-foot cardiovascular fitness room with free weights, plate loaded machines, treadmills, bicycles and elliptical machines.

Several members of the athletics department have their offices in the Jack & Mabel Maddox Student Life Center.

Other rooms in the Maddox Student Life Center include the athletic training area and several academic classrooms.
