Coach Galvan begins his eighth year at the helm at his alma mater after spending seven years as an assistant coach. Coach Galvan took over the Mustangs after the retirement of former Coach Jim Marshall. While on staff as an assistant, Coach Galvan shared in the continual growth and extreme success in qualifying for the Region VI Tournament in 2002 and winning the Western Division Red River Athletic Conference in 2004. Along with head coaching duties Coach Galvan assumes the role as Athletic Director and during his tenure the athletic department is continuing to make strides. After finishing runners-up two years in a row for the conference grade point average, 2008-09 proved to be the breakout year for student-athletes as the department achieved a 3.06 and was recognized as the highest GPA for student-athletes among the conference schools, along with this award comes the Sportsmanship Award which is voted on by AD's within the conference and goes to the USW athletic programs. The final award was given to Coach Galvan which was the Red River Athletic Conference Athletic Director of the Year Award for 2008-09.
The Mustang Volunteer Program (MVP) was created during Coach Galvan's tenure as AD and this requires all programs to perform community service projects within the community during each academic year. He has also been nominated for Champions of Character National Coach of the Year on two separate occasions. The standard of excellence is displayed throughout the baseball program and continues through all 12 other athletic programs sponsored at University of the Southwest.
Coach Galvan began his collegiate playing career at Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, TX and transferred to University of the Southwest after his freshman year. Before coming to USW to coach, Galvan taught in the Hobbs Municipal School System. Coach Galvan is married to the former Amber Shannon and they have two boys, Ryan age 9 and Alex age 6.
