[Men's Soccer] Orona Named First Team All-Conference, Negrete Second Team

Hobbs, NM (November 7, 2012) – The University of the Southwest's Men's Soccer team had two players receive All-Conference honors on Wednesday, as Jorge Orona was named to First Team and Edgar Negrete to the Second Team in the selections.

Hobbs, NM (October 13, 2012) – The Mustangs stayed in playoff contention this weekend as they knocked off Wiley College 3-0 on Saturday at Bob Moran Field. The match would be the final contest played at Bob Moran Field this season which also marked Senior Day for Angel Hernandez who would be playing his final match on the campus of the University of the Southwest.

Hobbs, NM (October 5, 2012) – After a weekend that saw the Mustangs go 0-2 and even their RRAC record at 2-2, a dominate win was just what they needed on Thursday at Bob Moran Field. That is exactly what they got as the USW topped the Pilots from LSU-Shreveport 5-2 to stay in the middle of the pack in the RRAC standings.

With LCU down to 9 players and the USW with 10, the score stood at 1-1 for a tie after a double overtime contest.

WACO, Texas -- Jorge Orona of the University of the Southwest (N.M.) claimed the Red River Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week award for Sept. 17-23, and Juan Maya of Huston-Tillotson University (Texas) picked up the RRAC Defensive Player of the Week honor for the same dates.

Mustang Head Soccer Coach Don Koontz said, "Along with these projects, the players maintained a solid Chapel attendance throughout the year. I'm pleased with all of their participation and eagerness to be active in the community."

The Lea County Character Counts Banquet award is a different award than what most athletes are used to getting. The Character Counts Award goes toward area high school and college athletes that have been recognized by their schools for their sportsmanship and character on the playing field.
